Clarinet Studio Policy

Lessons

Private lessons are offered weekly in 30, 45 and 60 minutes lengths to guide, reform, develop and prepare focusing primarily on technique and repertoire as well as musicianship and creative skills in performance opportunity enhancement.
We will define practice expectations and individual goals.
Each student is assigned a technique activity, a theory assignment or activity, and performance material each week (exercises, scales, etudes, band music, orchestral works, solo pieces, etc).
Regular practice is expected. The time required for a good practice session varies dependent upon the age and ability of the student.

Enrollment

The first interview/trial lesson is free of charge and will last 30 minutes.
To enroll in lessons, students and/or parents must sign below prior to the start of the first lesson indicating that these studio policies have been reviewed and the student/parent agrees to abide by these guidelines.
At the first lesson, students are to bring tuition payment for the remainder of that month’s lessons.

Tuition

Lessons are billed in advance and monthly tuition is due at the first lesson of each month.

A $10 late fee will be assessed on all payments received after the first week of the month.
Transportation fees will be charged for lessons conducted at a student's home or school.

Attendance

Be on time and prepared!
Please be prompt – lesson times cannot be extended for students who arrive late.
Students are expected to attend each scheduled week. Keep in mind that our studio operates at full capacity and make-ups for missed lessons are not offered, and no refunds will be given.
In the event that student needs to miss a lesson due to conflict, illness or emergency (a week is requested), please contact within 24 hours in advance for cancellation and lesson may be rescheduled upon request.
Any chronic lack of practice, poor attitude, tardiness, lesson cancellation, lack of contact, etc. can be grounds for suspension or termination of lessons.

Teacher Responsibilities

I will:

Provide each student with the personal attention and respect necessary to develop his/her individual talents.
Guide each student to a greater understanding and enjoyment of music.
Encourage a feeling of success at each student’s individual rate of learning.
Guide each student towards musical independence through a balanced program of theory, technique and repertoire.
Successfully prepare students for regional orchestra, summer program auditions for festival institutes.
Report the progress of the student to the parent, listen to any concerns and answer questions that the parent and student may have.

Student Responsibilities

Schedule 45 – 60 minutes of practice each day for at least 5 days per week.
Complete all assignments using a metronome or other practice technique (rhythm, air or pitch exercise).
Review suggestions or instructions given in previous lesson written in the Practice Planner.
Fill-in practice time honestly every week.
Keep all equipment clean (wash hands and brush your teeth before playing clarinet).
Ask questions or concerns at any time.
Be prepared for lesson.
